Herb of the Week – Oregano
Oregano is SO easy to grow, its a perennial, it seems to be anti-critter, and it’s fabulous in foods — dried or fresh. I read that sometimes oregano doesn’t survive winter months in cold climates, but our oregano has survived during ‘rough’ winters like in 2009/2010/2011 in NJ. I grow oregano in a large pot [...]

Herb of the Week – Sage
I shared a pic of the flowering Sage last week, but I really think its just gorgeous and rustic when its flowering. Here is another: Regular Sage, or Salvia, is actually in the mint family. It is a perennial herb that I started from seed last year, and it has just grown fabulously on my [...]

What I did on Friday…
So closer to the summer solstice, there is LOTS of daylight left after work, so I was able to clean up the deck a bit, and get all my herbs out. I found the New Guinea Impatiens (on the ends), which I think are really neat and give a nice pop of color with all [...]

Herb of the Week – Savory
Savory is a delicious herb that, to me, smells similar to thyme, but more subtle, and looks similar to rosemary. This was very confusing when I first discovered this in the garden, because I had never heard of savory before. It wasn’t till early last year that I figured out what it was. What we [...]

Flowering Herbs
Check it out… my herbs are growing & flowering like CRAZY!! Sage, Thyme, and Chives… mmm mmm mmmmm. However, chives do look a little overwatered with all the rain we’ve been having… I think I need to transplant with better drainage.

Herb of the Week – Spearmint
I decided to start another blog series — herb of the week. It really seems like the fresh herbs are what I flock to when I get overwhelmed with the maintenance of some of the other plants. Â They are easy to identify, (usually) easy to grow, plus, they smell really good. In the garden, I [...]

I’m in love… with Condursos Garden Center
I’ve been missing me some gardening! My posts have been scarce lately, due to some other commitments, mostly my job (seriously, can I please just win the lottery already?), but some fun stuff, too, thankfully! Every day to & from work, I pass Condursos Garden Center. I don’t always get out from work early enough (they close [...]

Herb This! Finally!
Finally, some of my perennial herbs are ready to harvest! Tonight’s dinner featured fresh chives and winter savory from the garden. The chives have some flower buds on them for the first time ever (I think they have to be a more mature plant to produce flowers). The flowers are edible, and have a lighter [...]

Garden Pizza
After work Friday, there was a few more hours of sunlight to clean up some of the yard, before anticipated rain this weekend (there were a few drops, but I wouldn’t classify it as rain). Between cutting away dead oregano, clearing out the dead basil, and pulling up onion grass, my trusty garden gloves smelled [...]

Book Worm
My mom pulled this brand new book out this weekend to look up something we were talking about. After learning she actually had it for 5 years, and barely looked at it, when she asked if I wanted it, I responded with an enthusiastic, “YES!” SWEET! Looking forward to do a bit of light reading this [...]
