A MOSS SHOWER MAT! Not my idea, of course… I f*ing love science highlighted it here.

It sounds like a really cool concept. I’m not sure if I will actually like it in reality. Or if it will really work. It’s on my list of things to try at some point though when I have the time. I will definitely highlight it on here if I do.

If anyone out there is reading this — curious on your thoughts. Is this gross, or cool, in a natural sort of way?

Did you ever have a Chia pet? I did. Well, I had a Chia Tree. I thought it was stupid to grow something with green fur that wasn’t green in real life (I wasn’t the most imaginative of children). I remember having trouble keeping it completely full with water all the time, so while most of the tree grew nicely, the top inch did not.

Why am I bringing this up now? I just read an article on the new “Superfoods” you need to have in your diet — and one was Chia! I had no idea the seed was edible at all, much less such a nutritional food item (with lots of fiber, iron, omega-3, and calcium).

Maybe I should raid my parents basement to see if I can find my old Chia tree to try again!

I found this great website that sells every seed imaginable. After being limited to the Home Depot selection, this seemed like a dream come true.

http://www.swallowtailgardenseeds.com/index.html

After I had about 20 different seeds in the shopping cart, I realized I had a problem. This blog has been feeding a growing obsession that I haven’t figured out the limits for yet. I’m very excited to grow things and share it with the world (I think still mostly my nearest & dearest — thanks guys!) but need to realize there are limits and I have no intention of turning my house into a green house and my yard into a fully functioning farm — and even those have space (and time) limits.

Time to really assess the space I have, the seeds I’ve already purchased, the amount of time I have, and start to focus on how to best utilize them.

I did purchase some vinca seeds to grow, but that’s it!

And, also, an exciting new herb I heard about called Lovage — but really, that’s it!

While its still cold outside and not much outdoor gardening going on yet, I’m going to share some of my indoor plants. (for the record, its supposed to be in the 60′s the next 2 days in NJ, YAY!)

I have been wanting an aloe plant for awhile, and while visiting one of my bffs a few weekends ago in Virginia, I discovered the Merrifield Garden Center (awesome place). They had a cute little aloe plant for only $5. I had to buy it.

I transplanted it, and it already has new growth. Unfortunately, I also bent one of the existing leaves, so I had to harvest from it a little earlier than I had planned.

Aerial View of the Broken Leaf

Aloe Plant, bent leaf removed

Hmm… fresh aloe is a lot stickier than I thought it would be. This may just be a regular houseplant instead of a home remedy.
